Our skin is always in contact with textiles. Every textile we touch has an impact on our skin. Yet, to most of us, a sensible choice of textiles is not a part of our skin care routine. But don’t blame yourself. Most dermatologists are quick to recommend pills, ointments and even topical steroids, and only few advise patients properly on textiles that will be helpful for sensitive skin. As a result, the awareness of what constitutes a healthy textile is low.

However, it has never been more important than it is today to understand how textiles affect your health especially if you have sensitive skin. In the 1990s, only a fraction of textiles were made from plastics or synthetics fibers. Today, your clothes and bedding are four times more likely to be made entirely from plastics than a naturally growing fiber. Polyester, nylon, acrylic, microfiber, spandex, or materials such as memory foam are variations of petroleum based plastics. Colors for textiles are made entirely from chemicals these days, and yes, this includes a lot of organic brands as well, as their organic claims usually only refers to the fibers, and not the color. Compared to organic materials like cotton, synthetics fibers cause friction, prevent sweat evaporation which your body needs to cool, are more prone to harbor dust mites and other allergy causing microbes and they often carry irritating chemical loads which they release over time that your body absorbs. The fact that these synthetic materials are non-biodegradable and will end up as microplastics in the oceans and landfills is another troublesome aspect of the textile industry.

So, how come manufacturers have ditched nature for synthetic clothes and bedding? Just follow the money. While synthetics textiles are often marketed with great claims on performance, the reason why big business is choosing them is just that they are incredibly cheap to make. On the other hand, plants need time to grow. And organic plantations that cultivated crops without pesticides need even more time. Good things take time. But big business needs to operate on low margins, cheap consumer prices and compensate with high output quantities and short product life-cycles. While textiles could be made to last a lifetime, we have been brainwashed to see textiles as a cheap disposable product.

Nowhere does textile quality matter more than in your bed. It’s where your body recovers and repairs itself. Good sleep is also rejuvenating for your mind. If you are well rested, you are more productive and happier. It is not an exaggeration to say that a fulfilled life is built on healthy sleep. It all starts in your bed.

We at Aizome were not satisfied with the bedding available. The status quo is that even blended textiles are marketed as “organic choice.” It was simply not possible to find a company that would ditch synthetic coloring. So we created the very first bedding in the modern era that was made entirely from plants. Our yarns are spun from independently verified 100% organic and unbleached long-staple cotton bolls, and the color dye is made from herbal medicinal natural plants such as indigo or sumac nuts. The textile finishing is made again only from plant material. So absolutely no allergens or synthetics are used in the making.

Back in the day, the dyers of the Far East used colors with intent. There is an important wisdom in this craft. In Japan, indigo-dyed clothing was believed to help wounds heal faster. Herbal dyes have long been known to support skin recovery and add measurable benefits such as antibacterial qualities to textiles. Western medicine is slowly catching up to this. We at Aizome believe that herbally dyed organic textile can play an important role to help us heal.

Our philosophy aligned us with organizations that are fighting for those with chronic skin-issues. Aizome became the first and only bedding company that was accepted by the National Eczema Association with the Seal of Acceptance™. The National Eczema Association is a non-profit organization which recognizes product innovations that provide benefits, and improve the quality of life for people with eczema and sensitive skin. They carefully verify a company’s claims and their manufacturing to process. And that's why we got accepted and recognized by both the National Eczema Association and the National Psoriasis Foundation.

Thousands of happy customers have shared with us how Aizome is helping them to sleep better. To make the choice easy for anybody who feels their sleep can be improved, we provide a 100% money-back guarantee for a sleep trial period of one year, which is probably the longest such guarantee in the bedding market. We are serious, when we say that we want you to start sleeping healthier today.
