Ingredients and Technology

At AIZOME, we create cozy, nontoxic sanctuaries: organic, natural fabrics infused with soothing plant dyes, so you can rest the way nature intended.

Our colors come from nature—literaly. Instead of synthetic dyes derived from petroleum, we use plants known for their healing properties. Indigo, madder root, and pomegranate don’t just give our fabrics rich, vibrant tones—they have natural skin-soothing qualities, too.

Unlike synthetic dyes which can release toxins, plant dyes are biodegradable, non-toxic, and beautifully unique, while also being better for your skin, for the earth, and for our future.

The History of Aizome

Our plant dye inspiration (and name) comes from ancient Japan. Did you know that Samurai warriors wore indigo-dyed blue shirts under their armor? When asked why, they revealed that wounds tended to heal faster when pierced through their indigo-dyed shirts. In other words, the indigo-dyed fabric helped to keep their wounds from festering.

How Could We Not Be Inspired

The textile industry has a petrochemical dependence. Even organic and 'eco-friendly' textiles. And recycling polyester (etc) won't end that, for it does nothing to address the chemical processes and dyes used in textile, or the impact of wearing any of these cumulative chemicals on the human body. But it wasn’t always this way.

Plants such as Indigo, Madder, and Nutgalls are known to offer a wide range of health benefits, making them potent allies in the treatment of allergies, pain, and wounds. Additionally, our fabrics are made of 100% GOTS certified organic cotton, the number one choice of organizations like the National Eczema Society for sensitive skin because “cotton is soft, cool, great at absorbing sweat, easily washable and allows the skin to ‘breathe’.”

Meet Our Stars

Organic and Regenerative Cotton

Organic cotton is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. AIZOME products use only unbleached organic cotton and regenerative organic cotton. Some noted dermatological medicinal benefits of organic, unbleached cotton include breathability, moisture wicking properties, and that it is hypoallergenic.

Indigo

The ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians used indigo to dye cloth as early as 4000 BCE, and it was also used by ancient cultures in China, India and Japan, and across the African subcontinent and the Americas. Indigo has a long history of use in traditional medicine (known as Ban Lan Gen in TCM) and has been used to treat a variety of ailments, including wound healing.

Dyeing Powered by Sound

Our patented AIZOME ULTRA™ technology uses ultrasound to infuse our textiles with the plant's color pigments and properties. High-frequency waves press the dye into every cavity of the fiber.

The entire process is so clean that we can reclaim our wastewater as a skincare ingredient, for which we have won Cannes, LIA, Eurobest, and Spikes, were featured as an innovation finalist at SXSW and were nominated as finalists for the Earthshot Prize.

Creating Textiles with Purpose

In a world driven by mass production and convenience, we don’t just aim to reduce harm—we aim to create a positive impact. That means crafting textiles in a way that restores ecosystems, honors artisanship, and supports human health.

Every AIZOME product is a reflection of our belief that the future of fabric lies not in synthetic shortcuts, but in careful, conscious creation.
